Historical Background
The vast geographical area of the former Khorasan Province made it difficult to distribute facilities, allocate funding, and monitor services throughout the province. This contributed to significant delays in infrastructure development, including the expansion of the population covered by water and wastewater services.
The Khorasan Water and Wastewater Company began its work on 22 Farvardin 1383, with the mission of establishing a management center to manage and address water and wastewater industry challenges in the northern part of the vast former Khorasan Province.
Water and wastewater industry managers recognized the importance of downsizing and developing local management familiar with regional challenges. This approach was implemented and supported by state officials. Following the separation of Khorasan into Razavi Khorasan, North Khorasan, and South Khorasan, the Water and Wastewater Company was established within the legal boundaries of North Khorasan Province on 22 Esfand 1383.
North Khorasan Province covers an area of 28,179 square kilometers and has a population of more than 867,000 people. The province has 7 cities and 18 towns, with Bojnord as its center. It is located in a mountainous region, where declining water levels are evident across the plains.
